As told by his father, Nathan White, Reagan’s story is one of tragedy, triumph and overcoming. Just as his name Reagan “the ruler” suggests, his short life must be remembered as triumphant and overcoming. His parents, Nathan and Lindsay wish to establish a fund in tribute to Reagan Michael to assist families like themselves who are served at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital’s High Risk Obstetrics Unit. The journey of the White Family and the time that Reagan spent on this earth was monumental to many and will endure for many families in the future who will be helped through the Reagan Michael White Fund.
Many young families don't have the resources needed to balance the emotional and financial toll that High Risk Obstetrical care can cause. The support and services funded by the Reagan Michael White Fund will help ease the burden on these parents and ensure Reagan's memory is never forgotten. The fund will provide support to High Risk Obstetrics families for:
- Mom’s Day Out Program: Mom's Day Out gives High-risk OB patients an opportunity to connect with other mothers for support, encouragement and education. Weekly meetings allow these patients to see they are not alone and focus on making their hospital time meaningful and enriching.
- Gas cards for traveling parents: For many parents, the travel back and forth to the hospital for prenatal visits, check-ups and delivery can consume tank after tank of gas. This can take a severe financial toll on families that may not have the means to pay for their transportation. The fund could supply families with gas cards to offset any necessary travel costs.
- Grocery gift cards: With many parents facing medical bills, basic necessities like food can break the budget and become a financial burden. Grocery gift cards could be provided to families so they can purchase healthy food without worrying if they can afford it. For parents who are in a tough spot with money, this would make a huge difference during a difficult time.
- Lodging for out-of-town parents: As a tertiary hub for maternal fetal medicine, people from all across Ohio travel to Riverside Methodist to receive their maternity care. Unfortunately, not all parents have the luxury of being able to afford lodging during their stay in Columbus. Many have to resort to sleeping in the hospital or finding places that offer temporary charity housing. By providing funds for lodging, we could offer support to families already enduring a great deal of stress and anxiety.
- Memorializing a lost child: For parents who’ve experienced a loss in the hospital, memorial scrapbooks and care packages to take home bring comfort. High Risk OB staff will use this fund to pay for vital supplies needed to create programs that support grieving parents. This gives our hospital the tools needed to go beyond medical care and provide the emotional assistance that young families need during a tough time.
